SAN DIEGO – San Diego State softball’s Shannon Cunningham, Emma French, Jayleen Hernandez, Julie Holcomb, Matti Kwarta, Lala Macario, Key-annah Pu’a, Montse Reyes-Cardenas, Mia Rodriguez, Candace Tarle, Jazmin Williams and Angie Yellen were selected as 2026-27 All-America Scholar-Athletes, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Monday.

To earn the honor, a student-athlete must maintain at least a combined 3.50 GPA for both semesters of the school year.

Cunningham graduated with a degree in journalism after posting a 4.0 GPA in the fall. French wrapped up her freshman year as a business administration (management) major with a 4.0 GPA. Another Aztec with a 4.0 GPA last fall, Hernandez is heading into her junior season and is majoring in journalism (media studies). A native of Los Alamitos, California, Holcomb is majoring in kinesiology (pre-physical therapy) and is heading into her senior year. Kwarta is a two-way player and a biology major who just finished her freshman year. Another recent graduate, Macario, was a liberal arts major. Pu’a earned her degree in sociology this spring with a 4.0 GPA in her final semester. In her first semester of college as a business administration (accounting) major, Reyes-Cardenas earned a 4.0 GPA. Rodriguez wrapped up her sophomore season as a business administration (general business) major. A transfer from Utah, Tarle finished her sophomore year as a psychology major. Williams is entering her senior year as a business administration (general business) major. One of four Aztecs to appear in every game this season, Yellen put together a 4.0 GPA in her final semester during the season to earn her political science degree.
