Three Aztecs Named to Mountain West All-Tournament Team
SAN DIEGO – San Diego State outfielders Jake Jackson, Adam Magpoc and starting pitcher Drew Talavs received all-tournament recognition on Sunday evening following the conclusion of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Baseball Championship in Mesa, Arizona.
The MW all-tournament team featured 11 student-athletes from the four institutions that advanced to bracket play (SDSU, Washington State, Air Force, New Mexico) and were chosen by their respective team’s head coaches.
Jackson, who was recently named Mountain West Player of the Year, led the Aztecs in numerous offensive categories at the tournament, including batting average (.500), hits (11), runs scored (8), on-base percentage (.560) and slugging percentage (.773). The SDSU junior hit safely in all five games, collecting multiple hits on four occasions, while scoring at least one run in each of those contests.
With his performance, Jackson ended the season with a 12-game hitting streak and extended his streak of reaching base safely to 25 straight starts.
In an elimination game against Air Force on Saturday, Jackson drove in the go-head runs with a clutch double in the eighth inning, helping the Aztecs rally from an 8-1 deficit en route to dramatic 11-8 victory. He also belted a solo home run in the title game against Washington State on Sunday.
In addition, Magpoc hit .350 for the week (7-20), smacking one homer and two doubles while posting team highs of nine RBIs and three stolen bases.
In San Diego State’s tournament-opening 11-6 victory over New Mexico last Friday, Magpoc went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored, helping the Scarlet and Black overcome a 5-0 deficit. The junior transfer launched a two-run homer which tied the score in the fifth and later added an RBI double in the sixth to give the Aztecs a 10-5 cushion.
In a winner’s bracket matchup vs. Washington State on Saturday, Magpoc went 3-for-5 at the plate, tying his career high with four RBIs, though SDSU fell short to the Cougars 14-9.
Meanwhile, Talavs gave the Aztecs a tremendous boost on Championship Sunday, tossing 5 2/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts against three hits and zero walks, as the Scarlet and Black rolled to a 9-2 triumph over WSU in game one. The SDSU right-hander retired 14 batters in one stretch to help keep the Aztecs’ title hopes alive.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Kevin Vance, San Diego State captured its first Mountain West regular-season championship since 2023 and fourth overall. The Aztecs finished with a 36-24 overall mark in 2026, its best record since the 2018 campaign.
Prior to the conference tournament, Jackson was named MW Tony Gwynn Player of the Year, while Vance garnered Coach of the Year accolades. Along with Jackson, first baseman Max Farrell, shortstop Jabin Trosky and starting pitcher Rohan Lettow earned first-team all-MW honors, while third baseman Tyce Peterson and relief pitcher Aidan Russell received second-team recognition.
Next season, SDSU will move to the Pac-12 Conference, joining Dallas Baptist, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, Texas State and Washington State in baseball competition.
