COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sixty-eight San Diego State student-athletes earned Mountain West All-Academic status for the spring semester, the conference office announced today.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
For a third consecutive year, track and field led all SDSU spring sports with 17 honorees, followed by swimming and diving's 15 all-academic student-athletes. Softball garnered eight honorees, while both women's basketball and women's tennis had six student-athletes recognized. Other teams recognized include women's golf (5), baseball (4), men's tennis (4), men's basketball (2) and men's golf (1).
This marks the eighth straight year in which SDSU has had at least 50 Aztecs honored in the spring by the Mountain West. In the previous 11 years prior to the current stretch, SDSU hit the 50-mark only once when it had 52 award winners in the spring of 2008.
