Former San Diego State tight end and captain Parker Houston has been named a graduate assistant coach with the Aztecs, head coach Brady Hoke announced on Feb. 8, 2023. A former SDSU captain and all-Mountain West tight end, Houston will assist with the San Diego State defensive line.
Houston lettered four years with the Aztecs from 2016-19, helping SDSU to its most recent MW championship in 2016 and three double-digit winning seasons. Houston appeared in 49 games over his career with 35 starts, making 45 catches for 420 yards (9.3 avg.) with three touchdowns. Houston garnered second-team all-MW accolades as a senior in 2019, making 18 catches for 154 yards (8.6 avg.), captaining the offensive side of the ball for a team that went 10-3. In 2019 he was also a William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist (academics, athletics and leadership), a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete and the team’s recipient of the President’s Award for high academic achievement. Houston was also a four-time member of the MW Fall All-Academic team (2016-19) and the team’s co-outstanding freshman in 2016 with four starts at tight end.
After signing with Arizona as a free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft, Houston got into coaching. He has spent the last three years at Nevada powerhouse Bishop Manogue High School, coaching the tight ends and serving as the special teams coordinator. In 2022, the Miners went 11-3 and captured the 5A Northern League title with a 6-0 record. Houston coached a first-team all-state selection, and two all-region performers.
