SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State softball team (23-24, 8-14 Mountain West) will play its final regular season games of 2026 this weekend, when it plays a three-game series at Fresno State (21-22, 10-12 MW).

The games are scheduled for 6 p.m. PT on Thursday and Friday as well as 1 p.m. on Saturday. All three games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.

San Diego State is battling for a spot in the Mountain West Tournament. To earn a bid, SDSU needs to sweep Fresno State and San Jose State needs to win at least one of its three games at Boise State. If the Aztecs get in, they can earn a seed as high as fourth based on the results of other games around the conference.

SDSU is 29-71 against Fresno State all-time. However, since the Bulldogs joined the MW for the 2013 season, SDSU is 18-17 in the regular season and 20-18 overall. In the Stacey Nuveman Deniz era (since the start of 2022), the Aztecs are 8-3 vs. Fresno State in the regular season and 10-4 overall while winning all three three-game series. In the MW Tournament last season, Fresno State won 3-0 in the quarterfinals, but SDSU got its revenge with a pair of 3-1 wins on championship Saturday to bring home the title. Against four common non-conference opponents this season, SDSU is 1-4 and Fresno State is 1-6.

Last week, SDSU hosted Boise State for a three-game series. The Broncos jumped out to a 5-0 lead on Friday before the Aztecs scored four times in the sixth inning on a Kaila Pollard homer and a Jayleen Hernandez three-run double, but it was not enough in a 5-4 final. On Saturday, Angie Yellen hit a two-run single in the first inning to give the Aztecs a lead they would not relinquish, adding on with a Jade Ignacio RBI double and a two-run Quinn Waiki home run in the third for a 5-1 win. Key-annah Pu’a excelled in the circle, earning the win after allowing just one run across five innings. Boise State scored the first two runs on Sunday ahead of a Jazmin Williams sacrifice fly and a game-tying home run by Pollard in the fifth inning. The Broncos went back on top with three runs in the seventh, ultimately winning 5-2 on the Aztecs’ Senior Day.

Two-time MW Player of the Week Jade Ignacio (.385, .972 OPS, 5 HR, 34 RBI, 26 R, 10 2B, 5 SB) and Jazmin Williams (.357, .998 OPS, 9 HR, 31 RBI, 31 R, 6 SB) lead the Aztec hitters. Other top hitters for SDSU include Angie Yellen (.351, .886 OPS, 22 RBI, 22 R, 4 HR, 5 2B, 4 SB), Olivia Gigante (.277, .924 OPS, 11 HR, 33 RBI, 17 R, 6 2B), Kaila Pollard (.357, 1.071 OPS, 27 RBI, 15 XBH) and Quinn Waiki (.312, .851 OPS, 20 RBI, 20 R, 9 2B). In the circle, Ava Schaffel (4.30 ERA, 57.0 IP, 42 K, 3-2) and Key-annah Pu’a (3.90 ERA, 88.0 IP, 37 K, 6-9, 1 SV) have both been selected as MW Pitcher of the Week this season. Faith Jordan (3.46 ERA, 83.0 IP, 63 K, 8-5, 1 SV) has been a major contributor to the pitching staff.
