Aztecs To Host Seattle in Monday Matinee, Travel to CSUN on Tuesday
Fresh off a weekend hiatus from MW competition, San Diego State returns to the diamond for two additional non-conference games early this week, playing host to Seattle University (April 20) before traveling to CSUN the following evening (April 21).
SAN DIEGO – Fresh off a weekend hiatus from Mountain West competition, San Diego State returns to the diamond for two additional non-conference games early this week, playing host to Seattle University on Monday, April 20, before traveling to the San Fernando Valley for a showdown at CSUN the following evening on Tuesday, April 21.
The Aztecs will battle the Redhawks at a special starting time of 11 a.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium, while their clash with the Matadors at Robert J. Hiegert Field in Northridge is set to begin at 5 p.m. PT. Live stats will be available for both contests, with links available on GoAztecs.com.
SDSU (21-18) emerged triumphant in its two non-conference games last week, rolling past UC San Diego, 9-1, at home on April 14, before outlasting Long Beach State in 12 innings by a 7-5 count on the road the following night.
With the victories, the Aztecs move to 14-5 at home this season while maintaining a 7-13 mark in road/neutral-site contests.
Individually, Tyce Peterson leads the Aztecs in batting average (.325), slugging percentage (.636), hits (50), home runs (10), doubles (16) and RBIs (34).
Entering the week, Peterson finds himself among the conference leaders in several categories, including home runs (T-2nd, 10), slugging percentage (3rd, .636), doubles (T-3rd, 16), OPS (8th, 1.039) and hits (T-8th, 50).
As a team, the Aztecs rank second in the league in stolen bases (49), fifth in hits (374) and slugging percentage (.428) while sharing the fifth spot in home runs (36) and occupying the sixth position in batting average (.279).
On the mound, SDSU tops the MW with a 5.49 team ERA and a .260 opponent batting average while ranking second with 359 strikeouts.

The Aztecs are 5-0 in the all-time series against the Redhawks, including a 5-4 triumph in the opener of the 2025 Tony Gwynn Legacy when the Scarlet and Black prevailed in 10 innings on Jake Jackson’s walk-off double.
Seattle U (14-20) had its six-game winning streak snapped in its series finale at San Diego on Sunday after squandering a ninth-inning lead, as the Toreros plated three runs in their final at-bat to escape with a 13-12 victory. Earlier, the Redhawks captured the first two encounters of the weekend, winning by scores of 7-4 and 11-6.

The Aztecs own a slim 47-45 in the all-time series against the Matadors, which dates back to 1960.
However, SDSU will be looking put the brakes on a three-game losing streak to CSUN after dropping an 8-3 decision at Tony Gwynn Stadium on May 6, 2025
The Matadors (22-16) captured a series victory over UC Davis at home this past weekend, winning the final two games by scores of 11-2 and 5-3 after falling by an 11-3 count in the opener.
CSUN has been led by the duo of outfielder Matthew Thomas and first baseman Matthew Pena, who have both smacked 13 home runs to tie for the Big West lead, with Pena sharing the top spot in the conference in RBIs (40).
In addition, Thomas is slotted fourth in the league with a .368 batting average, trailing fellow outfielder Andrew Becker, who ranks second with a .370 clip.

Tyce Peterson leads the Aztecs with multiple hits in 17 games and tops the squad with two or more RBIs in 11 outings.
In addition, Jake Jackson is slotted second on the team with multiple hits in 15 games, followed by Jabin Trosky with 14.
Trosky owns the team’s longest current hitting streak at eight games.
SDSU is 19-1 this season when leading after eight innings and are 18-3 when outhitting the opposition.
The Aztecs also sport a 7-3 record this year in one-run games.
