SAN DIEGO -- Second-string quarterback Bert Emmanuel Jr. connected with Myles Kitt-Denton on an 87-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter on Thursday to highlight San Diego State’s Fan Fest scrimmage at Snapdragon Stadium.

The annual scrimmage marked the Aztecs’ 14th practice of fall camp and fourth in full pads.

On the second possession of the second quarter, Emmanuel faced a 4th-and-inches situation at his own 13-yard line before hitting Kitt-Denton in stride over the middle near midfield, as the senior transfer from Northwestern State outraced several defenders to the end zone.

Emmanuel played four series in the first half, overcoming an interception by Deshawn McCuin on his fourth attempt of the evening, before finishing with 134 yards on 6-of-13 passing.

Newly minted starter Jayden Denegal put up nearly identical numbers, completing 6 passes in 13 attempts for 50 yards in his four series of action in the opening half.

Gabriel Plascencia booted a 57-yard field goal to salvage the first drive of the scrimmage, an eight-play march that featured a 22-yard completion from Denegal to Jordan Napier.

Starting in plus-territory at the 42-yard line, Denegal directed the offense to another field goal on his second series under center, aided by a defensive pass interference penalty and an offsides infraction. This time, freshman Nick Clegg split the uprights from 41 yards out.

Emmanuel nearly duplicated the feat on the ensuing possession, hitting Mikey Welsh on a 13-yard completion following a seven-yard rush by Christian Washington. However, the offense came up empty after the drive stalled and Plascencia’s 39-yard field-goal attempt drifted wide right.

Reserve quarterback Kyle Crum led all three drives in the third quarter, including a 10-play, 66-yard advance on the final foray of the period, culminating in a 12-yard touchdown pass to freshman tight end Jack Lua.

Two plays earlier in the possession, Lua hauled in a 22-yard reception following Crum’s 16-yard completion to freshman wide receiver Jaylon Hawkins.

Crum finished with 81yards on 8-of-14 passing, while freshmen signal-callers JP Mialovski and Draiden Trudeau each played one series in the fourth quarter on Thursday.

Napier led the Aztec receiving corps with three catches for 31 yards, while Lua, Welsh, Parker Threatt, Donovan Brown and Marcus Mozer totaled two grabs each.

The SDSU ground game was limited to 53 yards on 27 carries, as Washington led all rushers with 17 yards on five attempts.

Defensively, Ryan Henderson logged a game-high two sacks, while DJ Herman and August Salvati finished with one apiece. In addition, Owen Chambliss, Niles King, Tano Letuli and Bryce Phillips each contributed one tackle for a loss.
