SAN DIEGO – San Diego State’s Jo-Yee Chan, Yasmine Kabbaj and Ninon Martinache have been named to the All-Mountain West Team, the conference announced on Tuesday. Chan and Kabbaj earned singles honors while Kabbaj and Martinache received doubles recognition.

A junior transfer out of the University of Oregon, Chan made an immediate impact in her first year at San Diego State. Playing primarily in the second spot, Chan has recorded seven wins in dual competition, as well as one on the top court. Her key victories include a 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 win against Kimmi Hance in the team’s victory over No. 16 UCLA and a 6-0, 6-4 win over Boise State’s Maya Dutta.

In her second year at San Diego State, Kabbaj earns her second all-conference singles and doubles honors, in addition to being named the 2024 Mountain West Player of the Year. Playing at the top of the lineup in all 16 matches she competed in, the senior out of Fes, Morocco holds a 9-4 record and closed out the regular season on a five-match winning streak. Her key victories include a 6-0, 6-4 win over No. 18 Washington’s Erika Matsuda and a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory against Cindy Hu to clinch a 4-3 win over UNLV as well as an outright conference championship and No. 1 tournament seed.

Kabbaj and Martinache boast a 10-2 record, leading the Aztecs in doubles competition. Going 10-1 on the second court, the pair earned 6-2 victories over No. 8 Duke’s Kimchi/Krug, No. 18 Washington’s Matsuda/Luescher and No. 22 Baylor’s Dong/Gibbs. The duo also holds an undefeated 4-0 record in conference play.

The top-seeded Aztecs kick off the Mountain West Championship on Thursday, taking on the winner between eighth-seeded Wyoming and ninth-seeded Colorado State at 10 a.m.
