SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's tennis team was back in action at the Aztec Tennis Center on Friday afternoon fresh off a 7-0 dismantling of Hawai'i on Wednesday. The Aztecs were able to repeat their success in another 7-0 win, the team's fifth consecutive victory after a season-opening loss at No. 6-Pepperdine.

The Scarlet and Black improve to 5-1 while The Beach falls to an even 2-2.

"I'm really proud of the team's effort today," said Head Coach Peter Mattera following the win. "Once we got our teeth into the match, we played with great energy and confidence. We are always trying to take a step forward and we did that today!"

In doubles, Yasmine Kabbaj and Myah Petchey played on the top court against Rhona Cook and Peppi Ramstedt. The Aztecs won 6-4. SDSU's two returners, Andreea Velcea and Andjela Skrobonja, paired up on the second court. They faced Doga Akyurek and Hana Becirovic Novak and won by the same score to earn the doubles point. Gloria Alogo and Zoe Olmos fell to Paulina Franco Martinessi and Mathilde Tranberg 6-3 on the third court.

In singles, Petchey played on court No. 3 against Ramstedt. The Aztec cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Facing Akyurek on the second court, Skrobonja was also dominant, winning 6-2, 6-2.

Playing on court No. 6, Olmos went up against Franco Martinessi and won by the same score as Skrobonja to clinch an Aztec victory.

On the top court, Kabbaj remained undefeated by knocking off Cook 6-3, 6-3.

Alogo played on the fourth court against Sarah Medik. After a 6-3 win in the first set, Alogo had an easier time in the second, taking it 6-1.

The lone match to require a third set, Velcea dueled Justina Dondonay on court No. 5. She battled but came up just shy in the first set as she was bested 7-5. The close loss fired her up and Velcea bounced back to blank her opponent in the second 6-0. Dondonay refused to give up without a fight in the tiebreaker but could not stop Velcea as the Aztec came through with an 11-9 triumph to make it a clean sweep.

San Diego State closes out this homestand when it hosts No. 14-ranked California at noon on Sunday.
