SAN DIEGO – San Diego State's Colby Turner earned his second straight Mountain West Freshman of the Week honor and fifth of the season for the period spanning April 1-7, as announced Monday by the conference office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

During the Aztecs' lengthy road trip last week, Turner hit safely in all five games, tying for the team lead with a .375 batting average (6-16) and six RBIs. In addition, the Huntington Beach, California, native topped the squad with a .625 slugging percentage and ranked second with a .429 on-base percentage.

Five of Turner's six hits occurred with two outs, while three went for extra bases, highlighted by two doubles and a triple. He was also 3-for-3 in RBI opportunities with runners at third base and less than two outs, including a pair of sacrifice flies.

In SDSU's 8-7 victory in 10 innings at Cal Poly on April 3, Turner recorded what proved to be an important RBI single with two outs in the fourth inning that gave the Aztecs a 6-1 lead at the time.

In all, Turner advanced nine runners in 17 opportunities for the week, marking a 52.9 percent success rate.

With his award, Turner gives the Aztecs seven MW weekly accolades after he collected the same honor on Feb. 26, March 4, March 18, and April 1. In addition, Jake Jackson collected the MW's first Freshman of the Week certificate on Feb. 19, while Jacob Riordan was named the league's Pitcher of the Week on April 1.

For the season, Turner leads the Mountain West with a .377 batting average and ranks fifth with a .632 slugging percentage while tying for seventh with 40 hits and 28 RBIs. The SDSU third baseman also shares the top spot in the conference with four triples, which is tied for ninth in the nation.

Turner and the Aztecs open their busy week with consecutive non-conference games, playing host to Long Beach State on Tuesday, April 9 at Tony Gwynn Stadium, before traveling across town to battle UC San Diego on Wednesday, April 10 at Triton Ballpark in La Jolla. Both games are slated to begin at 6 p.m. PT.
