Spokane, Wash. – The Aztecs are set to continue their 2023 indoor campaign on February 2-4 at the WSU Open and Combined Events meet and The Podium.

Following their appearance in Spokane, the team will head to Albuquerque, NM to compete in the UNM Don Kirby Invitational February 10-11. Following the Don Kirby Invitational, the Aztecs will compete at the Mountain West Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM in late February, the 23rd to 25th.

The Aztecs are coming off a strong first performance of the season at the UW Invitational with 12 new personal best records.

Friday's noteworthy performance came from both Jada Moore competing in 200m and Simone Johnson in triple jump.

Moore finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 24.46 while Johnson finished first in the triple jump with a performance of 43-08.75 (13.33m), a new personal best and the third best all-time mark in school history.

On Saturday, newcomer Hannah Waller made a statement, placing first in 60m prelims and finals with times of 7.41 and 7.36 and second in long jump with a jump of 19-04.25 (5.90m). All three performances set new personal bests for Waller.

The Aztecs return 27 members of the 2022 squad while welcoming six freshmen and five transfers.

Head Coach Shelia Burrell, six-time Mountain West Coach of the Year, enters her 14th season on the Mesa.

 The Aztecs will have two meets in both Washington (Seattle and Pullman) and New Mexico (both in Albuquerque) during the 2023 Indoor Season.
• The Aztecs left Seattle with 12 new personal best records under their belts.
• Four Aztecs, Charlize James, Jenna Fee Feyerabend, Sameerah Evans, and Thalia Wilson, PR'd in the 60m hurdles with respective times of 8.68, 8.70, 8.93, and 9.15.
• Simone Johnson's triple jump performance (43-08.75) gave her a new personal best and the third best all-time mark in school history.
•This will be SDSU's second Indoor meet in Washington before heading to New Mexico for two Indoor meets.
