ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Aztec women's cross country team placed eighth at the Mountain West Championships at the University of New Mexico's North Golf Course Friday morning.
Freshman Nicole Meyer was the first Aztec to finish, crossing the finish line in 21:56.7 (60th place). This was Meyer's first time finishing in the top three among Aztec runners.
Behind Meyer was Amber Elias (66th, 22:21.5) and Emily Burd (67th, 22:25.5) and then the Aztec top five was rounded out with Jessica Kain (70th, 22:39.2) and Naomi Smitham (74th, 23:07.3).
Also running for the Aztecs was Lauren Harper (76th, 23:23.3) and Alex Lomeli (81st, 23:42.9).
New Mexico, who is the No. 1 team in the nation and was running on their home course, took first place and had the first seven finishers. Utah State took second (73 points) and No. 12 Colorado State (75 points) placed third.
