SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher
On the game:

"It was nice to have a game that you can sit back and not be so uptight for 40 minutes. It was nice for us. We had three nailbiters that could have gone either way. I told Bill (Carr) after the game that it is very difficult when you have two starters that are not able to play. It takes away from everything you do. We've had some good runs with them in the past. They will win a lot of games.

"Tonight, early, we did a good job of guarding. One of our keys was no layups and to contest every three-pointer, and I thought we did a pretty good job of that to where they were looking around to see who was running at them and that helped us. We shared the ball and it was a good victory. We came out of the game healthy, and we need to move forward and get ready for the next one."

On San Diego State's defense:
"We played smarter and harder. They do a lot of the same things that we'll see against Air Force and the same things we saw against Seattle Pacific. I thought we did a good job of how we wanted to play their flare screens and what they were doing. We didn't give them easy looks. If you do that against anybody, you'll have a great chance to win."

Senior guard Brandon Heath
On UC San Diego:

"UCSD was short-handed and we know what it's like to play short-handed. They are going to win a lot of games in their league. We have a lot of respect for UCSD."

On the difference between today's game and last weekend's games: "We improved since the weekend. We played better defense. We pressured the wings and closed the gaps. We just came out and played harder on defense."

Senior forward Mohamed Abukar
On SDSU's intensity against UC San Diego:
"We came out with a lot more intensity tonight. We knew what we wanted to do on defense and we executed."

On Saturday's game against California:
"We need to get better on the offensive end and on defense. It is still early in the season and we know we have a lot to work on. It will be exciting to play a good program like Cal."

On teammate Lorrenzo Wade:
"He is a high-flyer and a great athlete. He is an exciting player to watch and gives us a spark when we need it. He gets us into the game and gets our fans into the game."

Sophomore guard Lorrenzo Wade:
On his shooting tonight compared to last weekend:
"I just focused tonight and tried to get my legs more into my shots. I was flat in our last home game against Point Loma Nazarene. I just tried to get more air into my shots tonight."

On getting in game shape:
"It was a lot easier tonight after playing three games in three days last weekend. In my first (exhibition) game against Point Loma Nazarene, I was a little tired since it was my first game in two years. I'm slowly but surely getting my legs under me."
