SAN DIEGO (AP) - Brandon Heath scored 18 points as San Diego State got off to its best start in 22 years with an 84-48 win over UC San Diego Wednesday night.

Heath helped lift San Diego State (4-0) over its Division II crosstown opponent with 8-of-10 shots from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers.

The last time the Aztecs started a season with four consecutive wins was in 1984 when they began the year 8-0. That was one of only three times that San Diego State advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Jordan Lawley scored 18 points to lead UC San Diego (0-1), which is winless in eight games against San Diego State.

The Aztecs jumped out in front 15-2 as Richie Williams hit a pair of 3-pointers. San Diego State increased its lead to 20-4 less than nine minutes into the game and scored 13 unanswered points to close out the first half with a 41-14 lead.

Lorrenzo Wade added 15 points and Jon Pastorek had 13 for San Diego State.

The Tritons lost 74-69 to San Diego, the city's other Division I school, in an exhibition game on Monday night.
