Ruben Peña enters his eighth season at San Diego State and sixth as the director of football operations. In his current position, Peña oversees the day-to-day operations of the football program including scheduling, budgeting, and team travel.
In addition, Peña works closely with members of the campus community, including faculty, housing & dining, and academic advising. His other duties include game day management, community outreach, the coordination and planning of team events related to the football program, the annual team awards banquet, and special projects.
Peña also serves as the football team's NFL liaison, managing and coordinating Pro day, and assisting the potential NFL Aztecs with transitioning from college to the NFL.
Previously, Peña served as a graduate assistant for football game management and operations at the University of Southern California, where he directed a team of 12 interns on game days.
A native of San Diego, Peña received his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 2015, before completing his master’s degree in sport management from the University of San Francisco in the spring of 2018.
Peña and his wife, Kelsey, live in La Mesa with their daughter, Sienna.
