Jim Solien
A San Diego State alumnus and former staff assistant, Jim Solien rejoined the Aztec media relations office in November 2012.

In his role, Solien serves as the primary media contact for the SDSU volleyball, baseball and swim & dive teams while providing substantial editorial assistance for the Aztec football and basketball digital game programs.

Along with his current responsibilities, Solien has worked extensively with the SDSU women’s basketball, lacrosse and men's tennis programs, as well as the men’s and women’s golf teams. He has also displayed his versatility as an official and talent statistician for Aztec football and men's basketball telecasts and has served as a liaison between the media relations staff and the SDSU athletics business office.

Additionally, Solien has a wealth of postseason experience, serving as media operations assistant for the first two rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships held at Viejas Arena in 2014, 2018 and 2022. He also covered the Aztec men’s golf team at the NCAA Championships in 2015 and 2016 and has traveled with the women’s basketball squad to the Mountain West tournament.

Prior to his return to “America’s Finest City”, Solien spent four years as assistant sports information director at San Francisco State from 2008-12, serving as the primary contact for the Gator women’s volleyball, women’s track and field, men’s/women’s cross country, softball and wrestling programs.

While at SF State, Solien was also the chief contributor to the athletic department’s graphic design efforts, producing numerous media guides, game programs, posters, brochures, and other digital graphics.

Solien garnered acclaim for his 2009 Gator cross country media guide, earning “Best in the Nation” and “Best Cover” awards in College Division B for the 2009-10 CoSIDA publications contest. In addition, his 2008-09 SF State wrestling media guide was ranked third nationally among Division II entries by Amateur Wrestling News.

Solien received a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an advertising emphasis from San Diego State in 1998 before earning a master’s in sport management from the University of San Francisco in 2004.

Following his graduate studies, Solien worked as a media relations assistant for Aztec athletics from 2005-08, covering the SDSU men’s golf, men’s/women’s tennis and water polo teams, among others. In 2007, he oversaw the publicity efforts for the Aztec water polo team that finished fourth at the NCAA Championships.
