Bio entering 2016-17 season.
Claire Howie is entering her first season at San Diego State as a volunteer assistant coach. She comes to Montezuma Mesa with collegiate experience as a goalkeeper at Long Beach State and nine years of experience at the high school and club levels.
Following her playing career at LBSU, where she earned varsity letters in 2004 and 2005, Howie moved to the high school coaching ranks, becoming a water polo assistant coach and swim head coach at St. John Bosco High in Long Beach. In 18 months, she helped the swim team to its best league finish and help grow the water polo program.
After a successful stint in Southern California, Howie moved to the Midwest and Winnetka, Ill., where she was named an assistant coach for the New Trier High varsity and freshman boys water polo squads. In her one season, she helped New Trier to a 28-8 record and a conference championship just one season after a below .500 showing.
Howie also founded and was the executive director for North Beach Water Polo (NBWP) in Winnetka. Under her direction, NBWP helped grow the game in the area for players and coaches, and established relationships with collegiate coaches. Toward the end of her seven-year stint, she also became the age group director/18U boys technical director.
