SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team (7-3-2, 1-1-1 Pac-12) returns home to take on Colorado State (3-8-2, 2-1-0 Pac-12) on Sunday. The match is scheduled for noon and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 YouTube page.
Last Sunday, San Diego State picked up its first ranked win since 2017 and first Pac-12 conference win in a 1-0 victory at No. 22 Texas State on a goal by Mia Hambro Svendsen in the 77th minute. It came on a header off a Katie Senn corner kick. The Aztecs logged 19 shots on goal to just three for the Bobcats, two of which came in the first two minutes of the match as Kailey Carlen and SDSU posted their sixth shutout of the season. On Thursday, SDSU tied 2-2 at Oregon State. The Aztecs trailed 2-0 in the 83rd minute before Kana Smith scored her first career goal with an assist from Alexis Leath. Five minutes later, Leath passed to Senn, who had her shot blocked. However, the Oakland native fired a putback shot past the keeper for the equalizer.
Colorado State has won two of its first three Pac-12 matches. Following a 2-1 win at Fresno State on October 1, the Rams came up short, losing 3-0 against Utah State last Sunday. CSU got back in the win column on Thursday with a 1-0 shutout win against Gonzaga. The Aztecs and Rams have one common opponent so far this season, Northern Colorado. Colorado State fell 2-1 in Greeley on August 23 while SDSU picked up a 5-0 home win against UNC on September 20.
San Diego State holds a 10-1-3 record against the Rams all-time including a 5-1 mark when hosting CSU on the SDSU Sports Deck. Last time the teams faced off, Mia Hambro Svendsen scored to give the Aztecs a 1-0 victory in the Quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament. Alexis Leath had a brace in a 2-2 draw in Fort Collins last year in the regular season. The last meeting in San Diego was on October 27, 2024, and ended in a 1-0 win for San Diego State.
SDSU has a break before its following match, at Washington State at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 22. All Aztecs home matches on the SDSU Sports Deck are free to attend, and all Pac-12 matches are streamed for free on the Pac-12 YouTube channel.
