LUBBOCK, Texas – The San Diego State women’s soccer team (3-2-1) fell by a 2-1 score at Texas Tech (3-0-3) on Sunday night.
The Red Raiders, who are receiving votes in the national poll, got on the board quickly. Kylie Bahr scored with an assist from Eleanor Hays 12:11 into the match. Victoria Miller nearly tied the score up a minute later, but her shot was saved by Addie Todd. Kailey Carlen picked up her first save of the night on a shot by Kaitlyn Giametta at 17:14, but Taylor Zdrojewski quickly rebounded and fired into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Texas Tech.
Alexis Leath got off a nice shot from the left of the goal shortly after the match restarted but a Red Raider booted it away for a save. Carlen saved three more shots in the first half, taken by Raleigh Greason in the 22nd minute, Giametta in the 24th and Storie Sexton in the 27th.
The intensity increased as the match entered the second half. Texas Tech’s Abbi Sine was issued a yellow card in the 61st minute. Three minutes later, Alexyz Nakamoto was given one of her own. As the 62nd minute wound down, Katie Senn took a nice shot towards the goal, but it caromed off the crossbar.
Four seconds into the 71st minute, Bahr committed a foul in the box. The Red Raiders argued but were given a yellow card and Senn was awarded with a penalty kick. She converted, shooting into the right side of the net to pull the Aztecs within a goal. SDSU kept up the pressure on Todd, with Leath and Senn each forcing her to make saves in the ensuing two minutes.
Carlen prevented Texas Tech from adding on with a save on another shot by Zdrojewski in the 75th minute, her fifth of the night, a new season high. Lily Boudet was given a yellow in the 83rd minute and the Aztecs were unable to get off another shot, falling 2-1.
