SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team (6-2-1) will play its first conference match as a member of the Pac-12 Conference on Thursday night, when it hosts the Boise State Broncos (8-1-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast on the Pac-12 YouTube page.
The Aztecs did not compete last week but posted a pair of shutout victories the week prior. On Thursday, September 17, SDSU triumphed over Pepperdine by a 2-0 score. Victoria Miller put the Aztecs on top in the ninth minute with assists from Alexyz Nakamoto and KK Chowana-Bandhu, who took seven shots in the match, as many as Pepperdine’s entire team. Five of the freshman’s shots were on goal including her score in the 51st minute with assists from Alexis Leath and Miller. Kailey Carlen logged the tenth solo shutout of her career, saving both Pepperdine shots on target. On Sunday, September 20, the Aztecs coasted to a 5-0 victory against Northern Colorado. Kenny Moore and Katie Senn each scored in the first 20 minutes to put the Aztecs in front before Chowana-Bandhu extended the lead to three in the 34th minute. Briahna Gieger added on in the second half with the first goal of her career and Naima Castro joined in with a goal in the 83rd minute. The Bears were able to muster just two shots on goal, with Carlen logging a save in 76:41 before Sammy Martinez made one of her own in the final 13:19. Chowana-Bandhu was named Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week on September 22 and became the first Aztec true freshman to score in three straight matches since Rachelle Elve in 2019.
The Scarlet and Black hold an even 11-11-1 record in its 23 all-time matches against Boise State with all of them coming since the 2011 season. The Broncos hold a 5-4 advantage in matches played on the SDSU Sports Deck. The last time the teams faced off was in the 2025 Mountain West Tournament semifinals. The fourth-seeded Aztecs played top-seeded host to a 1-1 draw behind a goal from current Bronco Mia Lane. Boise State ended up winning 3-2 in penalty kicks to advance to the conference championship match.
The teams have had four common opponents so far this season. Each team fell at Texas Tech, with the Aztecs getting on the board in a 2-1 defeat while the Broncos were shut out 2-0. Both teams defeated UC San Diego, Portland State and Northern Colorado. SDSU won 2-0 in La Jolla, took down Portland State 1-0 at home and knocked off Northern Colorado by a 5-0 score on the SDSU Sports Deck. Meanwhile, Boise State won 1-0 at home against the Tritons, beat the Vikings 4-0 in Portland and shut out the Bears 3-0 in Boise.
SDSU hits the road this weekend for a big match at No. 22 Texas State on Sunday. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT (11 a.m. PT). All Aztecs home matches on the SDSU Sports Deck are free to attend, and all Pac-12 matches are streamed for free on the Pac-12 YouTube channel.
