RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- San Diego State’s Brayden Forte (Aurora, Colo.) captured medalist honors in his second career collegiate event, claiming the Vuori Invitational on Tuesday at 5-under-par 208.

Forte fired a 1-under 70 in Tuesday’s final round on the par-71, 7,003-yard Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club in nearby Rancho Santa Fe, California, to win by two strokes over Brigham Young’s Kihei Akina (-3). Forte was one on just four players in the 72-man field to shoot under-par for the tournament.

Forte, who tied for 59th over the weekend at the Sahalee Players Championship in Sammamish, Washington, was tied for first at -4 entering today’s final around after rounds of 70 and 68. Forte had four birdies and three bogeys on the day.

Forte helped the Aztecs take seventh out of 12 teams at 22-over 874 following a second straight 9-over 293. No. 10 Arkansas won the team event at even-par 852, a stroke ahead of Colorado (+1). USC (+11), No. 23 Brigham Young (+12), tournament host San Diego (+13) and Oregon (+21) also finished ahead of SDSU.

Sophomore Beau Sahr (Eagle, Idaho) shot a 4-over 75 and tied for 36th at +9. He had a birdie, bogey and two bogeys on the day.

Junior Lequan Wang (San Mateo, Calif./UC Davis) and senior Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif.) each tied for 44th at +11. Wang carded a 2-over 73 on Tuesday with a birdie and three bogeys, while Oyama, competing as an individual, shot a 76 thanks to three birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey.

Junior All-American Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) slipped into a tie for 54th at +13 after an 81 today. Sophomore Eli Geddy (Tustin, Calif./UC San Diego) matched Takis at +13 following a 76 on Tuesday while competing as an individual. Junior Luke Bailey (Encinitas, Calif./Pepperdine) tied for 65th at +17 with a 75 today.

San Diego State wraps up its fall season at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, Sept. 25-26, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
