Five Aztecs Named to Pac-12 Preseason Impact List

SAN RAMON, Calif. -- The San Diego State football team had five players named to the Pac-12 Preseason Impact List, the league announced on Thursday. The five include running back Lucky Sutton, wide receiver Jordan Napier, offensive lineman Joseph Borjon, linebacker Tano Letuli and defensive lineman Gavriel Lightfoot.

Sutton is coming off a fantastic junior season where he rushed for 1,297 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first year as a starter. Sutton, who was named a Doak Walker Award semifinalist for the nation’s top running back and a first-team all-conference selection, had six 100-yard games to become the 20th different Aztec with a 1,000-yard rushing season in program history (28th time overall). Sutton’s 1,297 yards were the 13th most in SDSU single-season history and most since Rashaad Penny ran for a school-record 2,248 yards in 2017. Sutton ranked among the NCAA FBS leaders in rushing attempts (fifth, 254), rushing yards (13th, 1,297) and rushing yards per game (14th, 99.77).

Sutton has already been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List for the college player of the year, and has been named a preseason All-Pac-12 first-team selection by Phil Steele Magazine, Athlon Sports and Lindy’s Sports.

Napier, meanwhile, did it all for the Aztecs in 2025, catching 48 passes for 629 yards and two touchdowns, returning 22 punts for 193 yards (8.8 avg.) and a 75-yard touchdown, and returning 11 kickoffs for 246 yards (22.4 avg.). Napier earned all-MW accolades both as a punt returner (first team) and a wide receiver (second team), despite missing the final three-plus games with an injury. Napier became just the second SDSU punt returner to make an all-MW first team in the 27-year history of the league (Jordan Byrd in 2022) and just the second San Diego State wide receiver (Tyrell Shavers in 2022 - second team) to make an all-Mountain West first or second team since Vincent Brown and DeMarco Sampson were second-team picks in 2010.

So far in the preseason, Napier has been named a first-team all-Pac-12 selection at wide receiver by Phil Steele Magazine, Athlon Sports and Lindy’s Sports, and at punt returner by Phil Steele Magazine.

Borjon started all 13 games for SDSU last year, paving the way for a team that rushed for 2,583 yards and 25 touchdowns. The Aztecs had eight individual 100-yard rushers and allowed just 18 sacks.

Borjon has been named a preseason all-Pac-12 first-team selection by Athlon Sports and a fourth-team honoree by Phil Steele Magazine.

Letuli captained a defense that ranked among the top 25 in the country in pass efficiency defense (2nd, 100.4), red zone defense (3rd, .690), defensive touchdowns (5th, 4), points allowed per game (6th, 15.4), passing yards allowed per game (6th, 164.2), first downs allowed (10th, 209), total defense (11th, 293.7), third-down percentage (13th, .322) and interceptions (14th, 15). Last year, SDSU led the nation with three shutouts, its most in its Division I history (since 1969). Only Wisconsin (four in 2019) had more shutouts in a season than San Diego State over the last 10 years. Letuli totaled 30 tackles with a 31-yard interception, two pass breakups and four quarterback hurries in parts of six games last year before an injury sidelined him for the season. The two-time team captain earned all-MW honorable mention each of the last two years.

This season, Letuli has earned first-team all-Pac-12 honors from Phil Steele Magazine, Athlon Sports and Lindy’s Sports.

Lightfoot, meanwhile, is in his first season at SDSU after spending last year at Colorado (2025) and the three previous seasons at Fresno State (2022-24). At Fresno State, Lightfoot posted 66 tackles, five tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries, one sack and one pass breakup, seeing action in 35 games with 27 starts.

Lightfoot has been named a preseason fourth-team all-Pac-12 pick by Phil Steele Magazine.

San Diego State kicks off his first season in the Pac-12 against Portland State on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Snapdragon Stadium at 6:30 p.m. PT. SDSU’s home slate also includes a non-conference game on Sept. 19 against James Madison (7 p.m. PT), and Pac-12 home matchups with Texas State (Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. PT), Fresno State (Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. PT), Washington State (Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. PT) and Utah State (Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. PT).

First Saturday at Snapdragon Stadium Info
The San Diego State football team will play host to the “First Saturday at Snapdragon Stadium” on Aug. 15. Admission and parking are free at the event, but fans must claim tickets. The Aztecs will begin scrimmaging at 5:30 p.m. PT with the gates opening at 4:30 p.m. Limited concessions will be available. There will be giveaways throughout the scrimmage, including unique Aztec apparel and more. Following the scrimmage will be an autograph session. The four available games at Snapdragon Stadium include the Sept. 5 opener against Portland State at 6:30 p.m. PT, the Sept. 19 game vs. James Madison at 7 p.m. PT, SDSU’s inaugural Pac-12 game on Oct. 3 against Texas State at 7:30 p.m. PT and the final home game of the season on Nov. 14 vs. Utah State at 6:30 p.m. PT.
