SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team (2-1) is set to face the Pacific Tigers (0-2) on the SDSU Sports Deck on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. The match will be broadcast on the Pac-12 YouTube page and early arriving fans will receive a free SDSU scarlet and cream hat.
Last Wednesday, SDSU hosted the No. 10 Washington Huskies in what wound up being a defensive battle. The Aztecs led in time of possession and shots while the teams were able to put the same number of shots on target, but the Huskies came away victorious on a penalty kick in the 67th minute. On Sunday, the Aztecs took down Portland State 1-0 on a tenth minute goal by Kenny Moore, her second game-winning goal of the season. SDSU outshot PSU 20-7 and possessed the ball for 59 percent of the match. The San Diego State defense held the Vikings to just one shot on goal, which was saved by Kailey Carlen. SDSU is one of just eight teams nationally that has played a currently ranked opponent and not allowed multiple goals this season. The other members of the group are Cal Poly, Clemson, Illinois, No. 8 Ohio State, Saint Mary’s, Samford and No. 1 Stanford.
The Scarlet and Black have only ever faced the Tigers once before, winning 1-0 at home on September 23, 2005.
Following Thursday’s match, San Diego State will hit the road for its next three contests. The Aztecs will play at Oklahoma State on September 3 and at Texas Tech on September 6. Both matches will start at 5 p.m. PT. Finally, SDSU will wrap up its road non-conference slate at Utah Valley on September 12. That one is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT. All three matches will be streamed on ESPN+ to paid subscribers.
