SAN DIEGO – San Diego State head women’s basketball coach Stacie Terry-Hutson has announced the signing of Izzy Navarro, who earned WBCA Honorable Mention All-American honors at Point Loma last season.
“It’s always great to add a local kid to the program,” Terry-Hutson said. “Izzy is a proven scorer and facilitator and adds depth to our guard rotation.”
Navarro (Tijuana, Mexico) averaged 11.7 points, 6.8 assists and 4.2 steals per game last season as a junior, while leading NCAA Division II in steals and ranking second in assists. It’s the second straight season the Aztecs have landed a player who led the DII ranks in steals (Nala Williams).
“I chose to transfer to San Diego State because of the amazing coaches, the facilities and to stay close to home,” Navarro said.
Navarro finished second and third respectively for most assists (203) and steals (125) in a single season in Point Loma’s history and was just the second Sea Lion to earn NCAA All-American honors. She was also named to the DII CCA All-West Region Second Team and to the All-PacWest First Team while helping the Sea Lions win 21 games and make the NCAA West Regionals.
Navarro spent her first two seasons at Concordia University where she averaged 15.0 points, 2.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game across 53 games. As a sophomore, she was named to the All-PacWest Second Team after averaging 16.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.8 steals per game.
She burst onto the scene in the 2023-24 season, earning PacWest Freshmen of the Year honors and leading the team in scoring (13.5), assists (3.0) and steals (1.7).
Navarro has been named to the All-PacWest All-Academic Team after all three seasons.
Navarro grew up in Tijuana, Mexico and commuted to Cathedral Catholic High School in Del Mar where she scored over 1,500 points, was a three-time first team all-league selection and a two-time first team CIF honoree. While at Cathedral Catholic, she helped her school win the CIF Open Division Championship twice and Western League Championship four times. As a senior, she was named the San Diego High School Sports Association Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Navarro is the fourth guard to transfer to SDSU this offseason. She will join seven returners, including four starters, and three incoming freshmen that will look to build off a historic season that saw SDSU win the Mountain West regular season championship and tie a school record with 27 wins.
The Aztecs have set a program record for attendance in each of the last three years and season tickets are currently on sale.
