SDSU Hosts Football Media Day at Snapdragon Stadium

SAN DIEGO -- Ahead of its first season in the Pac-12 Conference, the San Diego State football team hosted a media day on Friday at Snapdragon Stadium. The event featured SDSU Director of Athletics John David Wicker, head coach Sean Lewis, three coordinators and 12 student-athletes, and was attended by 12 media outlets.

Wicker opened the day at 11:30 a.m. PT with a “State of State” press conference, speaking to the importance of San Diego State becoming a member of the prestigious conference.

“The biggest thing right now is that top to bottom, it's a very competitive league,” Wicker said. “We know that we've got teams that are investing and be competitive at the highest level. We've got great exposure to what we're building with our television partners.

“Our expectation is to win championships. That's our expectation within our athletic department. As you look at historically the number of championships that we've won across all of our sports, our expectation is to compete for championships, and our fan base should expect that come November, San Diego State football is competing for its first Pac-12 championship, and they should be here to support.”

Third-year head football coach Sean Lewis followed Wicker on the dais and spoke to building on the momentum of a nine-win season in 2025 and taking that into the Pac-12.

“Winning helps and we've been talking about a vision and a belief and have faith in the way that we do it,” Lewis said. “Well, now there's proof of concept to what's going on. When our coaches went out with the Pac-12 logo on their shirt, that makes it real, and suddenly that guy has perked up. Recruits are like “oh yeah, that's happening. You're a part of it.” Absolutely, we're part of it, but you know we want to set the pace with how it's going. That national stage, national brand, obviously the resources that we've been allotted and supported with allows to go get a certain talent and caliber of kid that has the right character for what we're going to do. I'm really excited about the guys that we've brought in, the guys that we're able to retain, and then be able to build off that as we go forward.”

While Lewis spoke with out-of-town media on a Zoom call, he joined associate head coach Zac Barton, offensive coordinator Matt Johnson and defensive coordinator Demetrius Sumler, along with 12 student-athletes for a 1-on-1 session in the Cox Business lounge that lasted for over an hour.

The student-athletes in attendance including offensive lineman Joseph Borjon, wide receivers Jacob Bostick and Jordan Napier, quarterback Jayden Denegal, tight end Jackson Ford, running back Lucky Sutton, defensive linemen Malachi Finau, Gavriel Lightfoot and Brady Nassar, linebackers Sione Hala and Tano Letuli, and safety Josh Hunter.

Season tickets and single-game tickets are currently on sale for the San Diego State football team’s 2026 campaign, its first in the Pac-12 Conference.

SDSU’s home slate includes non-conference home games on Sept. 5 vs. Portland State (6:30 p.m. PT) and Sept. 19 against James Madison (7 p.m. PT), and Pac-12 home matchups with Texas State (Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. PT), Fresno State (Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. PT), Washington State (Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. PT) and Utah State (Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. PT). The Pac-12 Championship will take place on Friday, Dec. 4 with the host being the team with the best conference record.

Season tickets remain the best value for Aztec football at Snapdragon Stadium. Season ticket pricing has been lowered across the board to make tickets more affordable and accessible for the loyal fans and community. Fans are encouraged to purchase season tickets through San Diego State, which start as low as $175 ($150 plus $25 Aztec Club Membership), only $29.17 per game. This shift supports SDSU’s focus on strengthening local connections and building a gameday atmosphere worthy of the program’s next chapter.

Single-game tickets start as low as $23, which includes all fees.

After going 3-9 in the first season under Sean Lewis in 2024, SDSU improved to 9-4 in 2025, including a perfect 6-0 record at home. It was San Diego State’s first undefeated home campaign since 1996 and just the sixth in its Division I history. The Aztecs outscored the opposition, 187-41, at Snapdragon Stadium, including shutouts over Stony Brook (42-0) and California (34-0).
