TUCSON, Ariz. -- Sophomore Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) shot a 6-under-par 66 in Monday’s second round, and is tied with senior Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) and Grand Canyon’s Mans Boje atop the leaderboard at 10-under to lead the San Diego State men’s golf team at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship in Tucson, Arizona.
Takis carded his 66 with six birdies and no bogeys on the par-72, 7,194-yard Omni Tucson National Resort (Catalina Course). Takis entered as the fourth-ranked player in the country in the latest Scoreboard powered by clippd computer ratings.
Kowack, meanwhile, backed up his 65 in Sunday’s opening round with a 3-under 69 today. Kowack had five birdies and two bogeys.
At -10, Takis, Kowack and Boje lead UNLV’s Zach Little (-9) and Wyoming’s Brody Leid (-9) by a stroke heading into Tuesday’s final round.
The four-time defending champion Aztecs shot a 7-under 281 and slipped from first to third at -22. No. 43 UNLV vaulted into the lead with an 18-under 270 and are at -27 for the tournament, a shot clear of Grand Canyon (-26) in second. Rounding out the top-5 in the 12-team field is Wyoming (-21) and No. 21 New Mexico (-19).
Junior Nathan Sampson (Temecula, Calif.) carded an even-par 72 in Monday’s second round and is tied for 20th out of the 63 golfers who have taken a stroke at -4. Sampson eagled the par-5, 587-yard eighth hole, while also birdieing three holes with five bogeys.
Redshirt junior Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 45th at +2. Oyama, who won the MW Championship as a true freshman the last time the event was held here in 2023, sank two birdies with two bogeys.
Sophomore Kai Hirayama (Arcadia, Calif.) matched Oyama with a 74 and is tied for 52nd at +5. Hirayama made the turn at 3-under but went bogey-double-bogey to start his back nine. He then bogeyed the par-4, 469-yard 18th to settle for a 74.
SDSU will play in the final group on Tuesday with leader UNLV and runner-up Grand Canyon, beginning at 8 a.m. PT.
