Harry Takis Leads Aztecs at Southern Highlands Collegiate

LAS VEGAS -- Sophomore Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) carded an even-par-72 in the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate to lead the San Diego State men’s golf team Tuesday in Las Vegas. Takis, the top-ranked player in the latest Scoreboard powered by clippd computer ratings, finished in a tie for seventh out of 84 golfers at 4-under-par 212 at the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club.

Amazingly, it was the worst finish of the season for Takis, who entered the week with a win and two runner-ups in his first three tournaments of the 2025-26 campaign. Takis logged three birdies on the day, including one on the par-5, 592-yard ninth hole, his last hole of the tournament, along with three bogeys.

The Aztecs, who are 25th in the latest computer rankings, finished tied for 12th with No. 31 UCLA and No. 46 in the elite 15-team field at 22-over after shooting a 13-over 301 in today’s final round. Top-ranked Virginia won at -15, while No. 2 Auburn (-14), No. 12 Illinois (-4) and No. 4 Texas (-1) also finished under-par for the 54-hole tournament.

Sophomore Kai Hirayama (Arcadia, Calif.), meanwhile, tied for 42nd at 6-over 222 after a 79 on Tuesday. He had two birdies, seven bogeys and a double bogey.

Seniors Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) and Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) tied for 57th at +10. Both players at matching 75s in today’s final round with each recording three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.

Junior Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) was 82nd at +24 following an 82 on Tuesday.

Christiaan Maas of Texas earned medalist honors at -10, followed by Virginia’s Josh Duangmanee (-9) and Auburn’s Jackson Koivun (-7).

The Aztecs play host to their lone tournament of the season with the R.E. Lamkin Invitational, March 9-10 at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California.
