Aztec Swim and Dive Captures Fifth Straight Mountain West Championship
In its final curtain call as Mountain West members, the San Diego State swim and dive program made history on Saturday by winning its fifth consecutive conference title and 10th overall, thanks to a continuous stream of noteworthy performances this week at the 2026 Credit Union 1 MW Championships in Houston, Texas.

The Aztecs amassed 1367.50 points during the four-day meet, building enough of a lead to thwart any challenges from the rest of the field, including Washington State (1,102.50 pts), which vaulted past UNLV (1,083 pts) into the second position, while Fresno State (913 pts) and Nevada (861.50 pts) rounded out the top five.
With another successful title defense, head coach Mike Shrader’s charges have claimed a record 10 Mountain West crowns since the 2010-11 campaign. In addition, SDSU tied former conference member Brigham Young with its fifth straight championship after the Cougars captured titles in the league’s first five years of existence from 2000-04.

San Diego State posted four podium finishes on Saturday, highlighted by a gold-medal performance from diver Isabella Gomez, who totaled a career-high 306.30 points, which ranks second on the program’s all-time charts. The junior transfer from New Mexico catapulted to the top of the leaderboard on her final attempt of the day, netting a score of 75.40 in the 205B dive from the 10-meter height.
In addition, the Aztecs’ 400 freestyle relay team of Kaydence Bispo, Alli Mann, Melanie Quinto and Alyssa Schiller collected a silver medal after finishing the race at 3:16.26, which ranks second in school history.
Mann also picked up a bronze medal in the 100 freestyle, where she recorded a personal-best time of 48.81, which is slotted fourth on the program’s all-time performance list.
Abby Storm was a bronze medalist as well in the 200 backstroke after completing a swim of 1:55.94, while Reka Nyiradi finished in the seventh spot at 1:57.38.
In all, the Scarlet and Black boasted 12 results in “A” finals competition on Saturday, including a fourth-place effort by Roni Black in the 200 breaststroke, where she touched the wall with a personal-best clocking of 2:09.08, which ranks third in school history, while Moa Bergdahl took seventh in the event at 2:10.44.
Additionally, Kaydence Bispo was slotted fourth in the 100 free, where she completed a collegiate-fast sprint of 49.06, which is tied for fifth in school history, while Alyssa Schiller placed seventh in the race at 49.41.
Back in the diving well, SDSU advanced three other competitors to the “A” finals, including Belen Cano, who finished fourth after compiling a collegiate-best total of 292.75 points, which ranks third on the program’s all-time charts, while Alina Skrocki (278.40) took sixth, followed by Keira Kuderka (240.85), who landed in the seventh position.
For the week, the Aztecs set 28 career top 10 times or mark on the school’s all-time performance list.
SDSU also received a boost from a pair of consolation finalists on Saturday, including Melanie Quinto, who won the 200 backstroke “B” finals with a time of 1:56.78, which ranks eighth in program history, while Liv Peebles placed third in the round at 1:57.31, which is slotted 10th.
Elsewhere, Sophia Hineline captured the consolation finals of the platform diving event with a personal-best score of 252.00, which surpasses an NCAA zone qualifying mark and ranks 10th on the school’s all-time list.
