Aztec Swim and Dive Extends Lead at MW Championships
The San Diego State swim and dive program took another significant step in its quest for another league title on Friday after capturing one gold and one silver medal to highlight another series of standout performances at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships in Houston, Texas.
HOUSTON – The San Diego State swim and dive program took another significant leap in its quest for another league title on Friday after capturing one gold and one silver medal to highlight another series of standout performances at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship inside CRWC Natatorium on the University of Houston campus.
Through 16 events, the Aztecs have amassed 958.50 points, extending their lead to 127.50 points over the closest competitor in second-place UNLV (831 pts), while Washington State (733 pts) remains a distant third.
With just one day remaining in the meet, the upward trend puts SDSU in prime position to claim its fifth straight conference crown and seventh in the last eight seasons.

Meet Notes
San Diego State earned a gold medal in team diving competition the first year the event was contested at the Mountain West Championships. The Aztec trio of Isabella Gomez, Alina Skrocki and Belen Cano combined for 307.35 points to easily outdistance second-place Wyoming. Gomez’s score of 68.20 in the 405C dive from the 5-meter platform secured the event title for the Scarlet and Black following Skrocki’s tally of 63.00 on the 3-meter board.
Not to be outdone, the Aztecs took home a silver medal in the 200 medley relay, as the foursome of Abby Storm, Moa Bergdahl, Alli Mann and Alyssa Schiller completed the race with a time of 1:37.32, which ranks fourth on the program’s all-time charts.
Five SDSU swimmers advanced to the “A” finals round on Friday, including Reka Nyiradi, who finished fourth in the 200 butterfly after touching the wall at 1:58.07, while Amber Janky took eighth at 2:00.44.
Earlier, Nyiradi led all competitors in the preliminary session of the event with a personal-best clocking of 1:57.76, which ranks second in program history, while Janky posted a time of 1:59.64 in the morning heats, while is slotted ninth on the school’s all-time charts.
Likewise, Abby Storm placed fourth in the “A” finals of the 100 backstroke with an NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 52.25, while Liv Peebles finished seventh after logging a collegiate-fast swim of 53.64. Additionally, Melanie Quinto won the “B” final of the event with a personal-best time of 53.72. Both Peebles’ and Quinto’s efforts rank sixth and eighth in school history, respectively.
In the 100 breaststroke “A” finals, Bergdahl completed the race in the fifth position with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 59.89, while Roni Black emerged victorious in the “B” finals with a collegiate-fast clocking of 1:01.26, which is slotted eighth on the program’s all-time charts.
Rounding out Friday’s action was a sixth-place finish by the Aztecs’ 800 freestyle relay team of Reka Nyiradi, Kaydence Bispo, Grace Mering and Melanie Quinto, who completed the race at 7:16.03.
The Mountain West Championships conclude on Saturday for San Diego State with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and platform diving, as well as the finals of the 400 freestyle relay. Preliminaries are scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m. CT/8:30 a.m. PT, with finals expected to begin at 6 p.m. CT/4 p.m. PT. Links to streaming video and live results can be found on GoAztecs.com.
