BOISE, Idaho – San Diego State women’s soccer played Boise State for 110 minutes in the Mountain West Semifinals to a 1-1 draw. The teams moved on to penalty kicks to decide which team would advance to the conference title game, with the Broncos winning 3-2.

San Diego State’s (9-4-7) Katie Senn put the first shot on target ten minutes into the match, but Boise State (10-3-7) keeper Ava de Leest, the Mountain West Newcomer and Defensive Player of the Year, made the save.

90 seconds later, Ciara Jade Mitchell forced de Leest to make another save.

Aztecs goalkeeper Kailey Carlen responded with a save of her own in the 14th minute.

Mia Hambro Svendsen was booked with a caution late in the 18th minute.

The Aztecs put shots on goal from Alexyz Nakamoto and Charlie Gerson in the 29th and 30th minutes.

Boise State’s Kenzie MacMillan appeared to score the go-ahead goal at 34:18, but it was overturned after replay review showed that Gerson was fouled by Tambree Bell prior to the score.

Carlen made consecutive saves on shots by Olivia Collins and Cindy Conner in the 36th and 37th minutes.

In the 44th minute, Emma Fuller found Alexis Leath for a score to put the Aztecs ahead, but it was also overturned, this time due to offsides.

Seconds later, Nakamoto put another shot on target that was saved, preserving a scoreless tie at the half.

Mia Lane pulled the Aztecs in front at 50:23 on the first goal of the night that would stand as Leath and Fuller were credited with assists.

Boise State’s Jillian Anderson, who scored both the Broncos’ goals against the Aztecs in the regular season, evened the score with a goal in the 67th minute with assists from Asia Lawyer and MacMillan.

Both players with assists on Anderson’s goal put shots on goal themselves in the ensuing 90 seconds, but Carlen saved both shots.

The teams combined for just one more shot on goal in the match, taken by Ciara Jade Mitchell in the 104th minute, in the second overtime period.

In that second overtime, a pair of Broncos, Kaylee McKeehan and Teryn Newkirk, were given yellow cards.

San Diego State led in shots on goal (7-6) while Boise State had more shots (20-15), saves (6-5), fouls (17-7) and corner kicks (6-4).
