BOISE, Idaho – The fourth-seeded San Diego State women’s soccer team (9-4-6, 4-2-4 MW) continues the Mountain West Championships on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT in the semifinals against top-seeded host Boise State (10-3-6, 8-0-2 MW). The match, and entire tournament, is being broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
In the quarterfinals on Sunday night, the Aztecs shut out fifth-seeded Colorado State, the seventh shutout of the season for San Diego State and freshman keeper Kailey Carlen. Mia Hambro Svendsen scored SDSU’s goal in the 84th minute for a 1-0 win while Charlie Gerson was credited with an assist.
This is SDSU’s 25th tournament appearance out of 26 Mountain West Championships. The Aztecs have made it every year except 2018 and hold a 22-14-7 record all time in tournament matches. San Diego State is 9-8-2 in the Semifinal round and 3-3-0 when facing Boise State. The Aztecs are 3-5-1 as the No. 4 seed and 1-4-1 when facing the top seed.
Boise State is coming off a bye in the quarterfinals and closed out the regular season with an 11-match undefeated streak including wins in their last seven matches. Wyoming and Colorado College each played the Broncos to a draw while BSU came out ahead in their other eight conference matches.
San Diego State is 11-11 against Boise State all-time with every meeting coming since 2011. SDSU is 4-6 when playing in Boise and has won just one of the last six meetings overall between the two teams.
With a win, San Diego State would take on the winner of second-seeded Air Force and third-seeded Utah State at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT on Saturday. The entire tournament is being held at Boas Soccer Complex in Boise, Idaho and streamed on the Mountain West Network.
