  • In a battle between the two teams tied atop the Mountain West standings, San Diego State plays host to Boise State on Saturday night. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. PT kick, airing on CBS Sports Network and San Diego Sports 760, the flagship radio station of San Diego State athletics.
  • The Aztecs (7-2 overall), who were picked to finish eighth in the media preseason poll in the 12-team Mountain West, enter Saturday’s contest with a 4-1 mark in MW play, tied with the preseason pick to win the league Boise State (6-3, 4-1 MW). Hawai‘i is a ½ game back at 4-2 in league action, while UNLV, Fresno State, New Mexico and Utah State are all a game back at 3-2. The top two teams meet one another in the MW Championship game on Friday, Dec. 5.
  • SDSU had its six-game winning streak snapped in a 38-6 loss at Hawai‘i on Saturday night.
  • Despite the loss, SDSU controls its own destiny in its quest for a 21st conference championship. San Diego State, which has played three straight games against teams with at least a .500 record, ends it season with home games vs. Boise State (6-3, 4-1 MW) on Saturday and San Jose State (3-6, 2-3 MW) on Nov. 15, and a road contest at New Mexico (6-3, 3-2 MW) on Friday, Nov. 28.
  • At 4-1 in league play, this matches the Aztecs’ third-best start in MW history. The only two times SDSU started with a 5-0 mark in MW play - 2015 and 2016 - it went onto win the league title.
  • San Diego State is a perfect 4-0 at home this season, outscoring the opposition, 145-31, with two shutouts.
  • The Aztecs are one of 34 schools with two or fewer losses this season (3 undefeated teams, 9 one-loss teams, and 22 two-loss teams).
  • San Diego State is receiving votes in both the AP Top 25 poll and the Coaches poll for the fifth straight week. The Aztecs have five votes in the AP poll (down from 30 last week), tied for the 33rd most in the poll, and one in the Coaches poll (down from 30 last week), tied for the 39th most.
  • Through nine games, the San Diego State defense leads the Mountain West in rushing touchdowns allowed (2, 1st in FBS), defensive touchdowns (4, T-3rd in FBS), yards allowed per play (4.03, 4th in FBS), passing yards per attempt (5.29, 4th in FBS), touchdowns allowed (12, T-4th in FBS), points allowed per game (13.11, 5th in FBS), pass efficiency rating (100.54, 5th in FBS), red zone percentage (68.42, 5th in FBS), yards allowed per game (261.78, 6th in FBS), first downs allowed (132, 9th in FBS), rushing yards allowed per game (93.11, 10th in FBS), rushing yards allowed per attempt (2.82, 11th in FBS), and passing touchdowns allowed (10, T-1st in MW, T-24th in FBS).
  • LB Owen Chambliss leads the San Diego State defense in tackles (85, No. 2 is 46), solo tackles (52, No. 2 is 27), assisted tackles (33, No. 2 is 19) and tackles for loss (9.5 for 62 yards). He’s also added four sacks for 44 yards, four pass breakups, an interception and two pass breakups.
  • S Dalesean Staley (46 tackles, 9 PBU), CB Chris Johnson (40 tackles, 3 INT (2 for TD), 9 PBU) and EDGE Trey White (32 tackles, 8 TFL, 6 sacks) have been the other top defensive performers.
  • RB Lucky Sutton leads SDSU with 898 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 172 attempts (5.2 avg.). Sutton ranks second in the Mountain West in rushing yards per game (99.78, 12th in FBS) and rushing yards (898, 13th in FBS) and tied for second in rushing touchdowns (8, T-40th in FBS).
  • QB Jayden Denegal has thrown for 1,547 yards and eight touchdowns, completing 115 of 193 passes with seven interceptions for a 133.3 pass efficiency rating.
  • WR Jordan Napier has been electric as an all-purpose player, reeling in 47 catches for 631 yards and two touchdowns. He also has rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, and has returned 21 punts for 193 yards (9.2 avg.) with a 75-yard punt return touchdown and 11 kickoffs for 247 yards (22.5 avg.).
  • Uncharacteristically, San Diego State was beaten in all three phases of the game at Hawai’i on Saturday night. Playing without All-American candidate cornerback Chris Johnson and fellow captain linebacker Tano Letuli, the Aztecs gave up three passing touchdowns and 300 total yards in the first half. San Diego State, which entered with a second-ranked scoring defense (10.0), sixth-ranked overall defense (246.3) and sixth-ranked passing defense (157.8), gave up 386 total yards for the game, including 256 through the air, and 20 first downs.
  • On offense, the Aztecs didn’t find the end zone despite having seven of their 14 drives go into UH territory. SDSU was 2-for-14 on third down and 0-for-2 on fourth down, and committed four turnovers in a game for the first time since the 2022 Hawai’i Bowl against Middle Tennessee State.
  • On special teams, San Diego State wasted a historic punting night by giving up its first kick return touchdown since Nov. 23, 2013 against Boise State. The Aztecs made two field goals, but missed a third in the waning moments of the first half because of a bad snap and hold. Punters Hunter Green and Tashi Dorje each logged a punt of at least 60 yards, the first time that has happened in any game since Georgia State on Sept. 10, 2016 and just the 10th time it has happened since at least 1996.
  • On July 1, 2026, the Aztecs officially become a member of the new Pac-12 along with league stalwarts Oregon State and Washington State, as well as Boise State, Colorado State, Gonzaga (for men’s basketball only), Fresno State, Texas State and Utah State.
  • SDSU is 66-35 (.654) in league play since the current 12-team Mountain West conference began play in 2013 (includes championship and bowl games), which ranks as the second-best mark in the league behind Boise State (86-19, .819). Utah State (third, .590), Fresno State (fourth, .583) and Colorado State (sixth, .485) each will join San Diego State in the new Pac-12 next season.
  • Saturday is the 11th meeting between San Diego State and Boise State with the Broncos holding a 6-4 series lead.
  • Although the Aztecs have only faced Boise State nine times since 2012, they are responsible for four of the Broncos’ 46 losses over that span.
  • This is just the fifth time in 11 all-time meetings that neither of the schools has been nationally ranked. The nationally-ranked team is 2-4 in previous games.
  • BS was idle last week and is coming off a 30-7 loss to Fresno State at home on Nov. 1.
  • After its game with Boise State, San Diego State hosts San Jose State at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Nov. 15 in its final regular-season home game of the year.
