SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s soccer redshirt freshman forward Alexis Leath has earned Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week honors, the league announced Saturday.

Leath started San Diego State’s (8-4-6, 4-2-4 MW) match against New Mexico on Thursday, playing for 66 minutes. She took one shot, scoring the game-winning goal off a pass from Emma Fuller at 82:42 to lift the Aztecs past the Lobos and clinch a spot in the Mountain West Tournament. SDSU moved up to the fourth seed in the tournament with the win.

Leath’s goal was the fifth of her career, moving her into a tie with Victoria Miller for the team lead.

Three Aztecs have previously won Mountain West weekly awards this season. Miller was named Offensive Player of the Week on September 15. A week later, Grace Goins and Kailey Carlen garnered Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week accolades, respectively. Last year, the team combined for five weekly awards, all of which came during two weeks: September 30 and November 2. The awards on November 2 last season were similar to Leath’s awards as Dori Savage and Mia Lane earned Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week honors, respectively, for their efforts in a regular season-ending win over New Mexico.

Fourth-seeded San Diego State will take on fifth-seeded Colorado State in the Mountain West Quarterfinals at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT on Sunday in Boise. The match will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network and the winner advances to play top-seeded host Boise State at the same time on Wednesday, November 5.
