SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team played Hawai’i to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon on the SDSU Sports Deck.

Defenses controlled the first half with San Diego State’s (4-2-2) Rory Schank taking the only shot on goal of the opening 45 minutes at 32:24 but it was saved by Hawai’i (2-4-5) keeper Brianna Chirpich.

Kailey Carlen made the Aztecs’ first save of the match at the 55-minute mark on a shot by Amber Gilbert.

SDSU put pressure on the Rainbow Wahine late in the second half when Mia Hambro Svendsen and Emma Fuller both forced saves by second-half Hawai’i goalie Kennedy Justin in the 76th and 79th minutes, respectively.

The Rainbow Wahine had one last opportunity in the 81st minute but Carlen saved the shot by Cate Sheahan.

The Aztecs finished the match with more shots on goal (3-2) and fouls (13-4) while Hawai’i had more shots (13-9), saves (3-2) and corner kicks (5-3).

THE NOTE
Kailey Carlen notched her third consecutive shutout and fifth total in just eight matches. She has allowed just two goals in her last five matches, both coming at Pepperdine on September 11.

UP NEXT
The Aztecs begin their final season of Mountain West play this week. SDSU opens at Grand Canyon at 7 p.m. on Thursday night before returning home to face Colorado College at noon on Sunday. Both matches will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network and admission is free to Sunday’s match on the SDSU Sports Deck.
