NORMAN, Okla. -- San Diego State men’s golfers Chanachon Chokprajakchat and Dylan Oyama were each named 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday.
To be eligible for a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be at least a sophomore - both academically and athletically - in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate’s degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Chokprajakchat and Oyama are two of 556 NCAA Division I athletes from 190 schools to earn 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.
Chokprajakchat was a PING All-West Region selection and an all-Mountain West pick in 2024-25 for the first time of his career. Chokprajakchat ranked third on the team with a 71.24 scoring average across 34 rounds. He was SDSU’s top golfer in three tournaments, including San Diego State’s victory at the Western Intercollegiate from April 14-16. Chokprajakchat had a runner-up finish and five top-10s in 10 starts last season, leading the Aztecs with seven even-par rounds and ranking second with 16 rounds below par. He also garnered Academic All-MW honors for the spring campaign.
Oyama, meanwhile, received his second major academic accolade after being named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, while also being named a MW Scholar-Athlete and to the Academic All-MW team for the spring season. Oyama played eight tournaments on the season, starting 14 of the 20 rounds he competed in. He averaged 73.30 strokes per round, and played in the final round of SDSU’s 23-shot victory at the Mountain West Championship, April 25-26, carding 1-under 71. Oyama also played the first round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional. Oyama was the 2022-23 Mountain West Freshman of the Year and captured the 2023 MW individual title.
San Diego State won its fourth consecutive MW championship and earned a spot in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, where the Aztecs tied for seventh out of 14 teams, two spots from advancing to the NCAA Championship.
Recently, former Aztec J.J. Spaun (2009-12) won the U.S. Open, June 12-15 at Oakmont Country Club. Along with a pair of major wins last season by Xander Schauffele at the PGA Championship and The Open, a former SDSU golfer has won three of the last seven majors. Recent San Diego State graduate Justin Hastings (2022-25), meanwhile, was the low amateur at the two of the three majors he has competed in this season, including the Masters and the U.S. Open.
