SAN DIEGO – San Diego State softball’s Shannon Cunningham, Cali Decker, Julie Holcomb, Jazmin Williams and Angie Yellen were selected to the 2025 Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced Wednesday.

The Academic All-District Teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, and recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Some Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve (play in 90% of team games or start 66% of team games for hitters; appear in 17 games or pitch 35 innings for pitchers) with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution.

San Diego State had multiple players selected to the Academic All-District Team for just the second time in program history after four Aztecs (Decker, Yellen, Makena Brocki and Alyssa Garcia) earned the honor last season. Previously, just six Aztecs had made the All-District Team: Brocki (2023), Samantha Camello (2016), Hayley Miles (2012), Brittany Knudsen (2010), Celena Velasquez (2006) and Kelcy Murphy (2004). Decker and Yellen join Brocki as the only SDSU student-athletes to make the All-District Team multiple times.

Moving on to the All-America ballot for the second straight season, Decker looks to join Camello as the only Aztecs to be named CSC Academic All-Americans. A communications major, Decker had a 3.71 GPA heading into her final semester of college. She was named Third Team All-West Region by the NFCA for hitting .358 with 16 doubles, a triple, five home runs, 40 RBIs and 22 runs scored. The Aztecs’ catcher was one of three players on the team to start all 57 games and her .566 slugging percentage, .472 on-base percentage and 1.038 OPS all lead the team.

A sophomore outfielder, Holcomb is a kinesiology (Pre-Physical Therapy) major and put together an impressive 3.95 GPA in the fall to raise her cumulative GPA to 3.72. The Los Alamitos, California, native started in 48 of her 56 games and paced the team with a .370 batting average. Her three triples also led the team, and she tallied 17 RBIs, 21 runs scored, 12 stolen bases and a .793 OPS.

In her first semester at San Diego State after transferring from Cal State Fullerton, Williams put together a 3.68 GPA. On the field, the business administration major spent time in both the infield and outfield on her way to 48 starts and 56 games played. She hit .283 with a .815 OPS, five home runs, a triple, 13 doubles, 28 RBIs, 30 runs scored and 13 stolen bases on 14 attempts.

Yellen, a political science major, tallied a 3.86 GPA in the fall to improve her cumulative average to 3.81. On the diamond, she moved into a regular spot at third base, starting all 54 of her games played and accumulating three home runs, a triple, six doubles, 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored while hitting at a .294 clip with a .756 OPS.
