SAN DIEGO – San Diego State swim and dive student-athletes Moa Bergdahl, Meredith Smithbaker, Summer Westmoreland and Christiana Williams were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team for their excellence in the classroom and in the pool, as announced Tuesday by College Sports Communicators, formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for nomination to the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Team, candidates must have at least a sophomore standing and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher combined with consistent contributions in the pool, participating in at least five of the institution's competitions OR placing in the top eight at a conference meet.

Additionally, each school is limited to four nominations to the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Team.

All four Aztec competitors, who received the same CSC Academic All-District recognition last year, played prominent roles in helping San Diego State capture its fourth straight Mountain West championship during the 2024-25 campaign and sixth in the last seven seasons.

A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Bergdahl earned five all-MW honors at the conference meet in February, capturing silver medals as a member of the Aztecs’ 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams. She also took home a pair of bronze medals in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley to go with a fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.

Bergdahl posted a career-fast time of 59.55 in the finals of the 100 breast at the MW Championships, which ranks third in school history.

A junior majoring in sustainability at SDSU, Bergdahl has maintained a 3.88 cumulative GPA. She is a two-time Mountain West all-academic selection and has twice received conference scholar-athlete distinction.

In addition, Smithbaker garnered six all-Mountain West accolades this season, highlighted by a pair of gold medals as the anchor of the Aztecs’ 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay teams. She also earned three silver medals in the 100 free and as a member of SDSU’s 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams while claiming a bronze in the 50 free.

Earlier in the season, the Fort Collins, Colorado, native helped the Scarlet and Black to a strong second-place finish at the highly competitive Iowa Hawkeye Invitational, where she claimed a pair of victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

A three-time MW scholar-athlete and conference all-academic honoree, Smithbaker is majoring in art/graphic design with cumulative 3.86 GPA.

A diver from Tucson, Arizona, Westmoreland earned all-MW honors at the conference meet after placing eighth on the 1-meter springboard.  Earlier this season, the Aztec senior took second in the platform event at the Riverside Collegiate Invitational with a career-best 252.90 points, which ranks seventh in program history.

In all, Westmoreland posted 16 top-10 finals finishes during the season and competed at the NCAA Zone E Championships for the fourth straight year.

A three-time MW scholar-athlete and conference all-academic selection, Westmoreland has compiled a 3.92 GPA as a civil engineering major at SDSU.

Another Tucson native, Williams received all-MW recognition this season after logging a pair of seventh-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Williams was a two-time qualifier for the NCAA Championships in the 100 and 200 breast in 2023 and 2024. She owns the school record in the 200 breast (2:08.23), which ranks second in MW history.

Williams, who merited MW scholar-athlete plaudits and conference all-academic honors in each of the past two seasons, has accumulated a 3.92 GPA as a public health major at San Diego State.

Not to be outdone, Williams earned first-team Scholar All-American recognition last summer from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), while Bergdahl, Smithbaker and Westmoreland were second-team honorees.

The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes swim and dive honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
