SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis welcomed crosstown foe San Diego to the Aztec Tennis Center on Friday, blanking the Toreros 4-0 to capture the team’s seventh win of the season.
This is San Diego State’s second straight win over teams ranked in the top 50 of the ITA national team rankings. Coming off a 4-3 victory over No. 30 UCLA, the Aztecs shutout No. 43 San Diego to improve to 7-4 on the season.
The Scarlet and Black secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Yasmine Kabbaj and Ninon Martinache dominated the court two matchup against Claudia de las Heras and Gabby Gregg, taking the match 6-0. Gloria Alogo and Zoe Olmos clinched the point with a commanding 6-1 victory over Kristina Nordikyan and Brionna Nguyen on court three. Liisa Varul and Jo-Yee Chan’s court one matchup against Hannah Read and Anni Puls was left unfinished, tied up at 4-4.
San Diego scratched on court six due to an injury, giving the Aztecs the first point in singles play.
Chan cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nordikyan on court two to extend the lead to 3-0 for the Scarlet and Black.
Olmos was the clincher for the Aztecs for the second straight match. Facing off against Nguyen in the fifth spot, the senior took the first set 6-3 before sealing the shutout with a 6-2 second set victory.
The Aztecs continue their home stand on March 13, taking on their sixth ranked opponent of the 2025 campaign, welcoming No. 10 Duke to the Aztec Tennis Center for an 11 a.m. matchup to conclude the non-conference schedule. Mountain West play will get underway the following day with Air Force making the trip to San Diego for a 2 p.m. contest.
