LAS VEGAS -- The San Diego State men’s golf team shot a 16-over-par 304 and are in 12th place after two rounds of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Monday in Las Vegas.

The Aztecs, who are 22nd in the latest NCAA computer rankings, are at 31-over 607 through 36 holes, and are five shots behind No. 11 Florida (+26) for 10th of a 15-team field that has 13 top-50 programs. No. 2 Auburn is the only team under par at 2-under, while host and No. 31 UNLV (+1), No. 24 Pepperdine (+11), New Mexico (+16), No. 4 Oklahoma (+16) and No. 9 Virginia (+16) round out the top-5 and ties. SDSU is two shots behind No. 16 Georgia Tech (+29), and is beating No. 18 SMU (+34), No. 30 Georgia (+41) and Washington (+42).

Junior Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) is tied for 16th out of 84 golfers at 4-over 148 following a 77 today on the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. Kowack, who was one of just five golfers to shoot under-par in Sunday’s first round with a 1-under 71, had two birdies today, five bogeys and a double bogey on the par-3, 177-yard 12th hole.

For a second straight day, junior Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) and sophomore Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) shot matching scores, this time a 3-over 75. The duo opened with a 77 on Sunday and are tied for 40th at +8. Chokprajakchat opened with two birdies in his first three holes and was still 2-under through 11 holes. However, a double-bogey on the 12th and three bogeys over his final five holes had him sign for a 75. Similarly, Oyama birdied two of his first three holes and was 2-under through eight holes. Oyama double bogeyed the par-5, 592-yard ninth, and had three more bogeys on the back nine to settle for a 75.

Freshman Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) is tied for 66th at +12 with his second straight 78. Takis recorded his first birdie of the tournament on the par-3, 620-yard third, which was offset by five bogeys and a double bogey on the par-3, 214-yard 17th.

Senior Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) is 79th at +16, improving six strokes with a 77 today. Lague sank three birdies, but also four bogeys and two double bogeys.

UNLV’s Caden Fioroni backed up his 5-under 65 with another 65 today and leads by five strokes at -10. Arizona’s Josiah Gilbert is second at -5, while Virginia’s Ben James (-3), Pepperdine’s William Walsh (-1) and Auburn’s Ryan Eshelman (E) round out the top 5.

San Diego State will tee off from the 10th hole in Tuesday’s final round, beginning at 9:20 a.m. PT with Florida and Georgia Tech.
