SAN DIEGO – The Aztecs host Wyoming Saturday at 1 p.m. for National Women and Girls in Sports Day.

 

Aztec Tidbits

  • SDSU has won four of their last five games and are coming off a 61-57 win at Fresno State Saturday.
  • The Aztecs have won three games in a row, and all were against teams that were ahead of them in the standings prior to the game. Their next two games (Wyoming and at UNLV) are against the top two teams in the standings. SDSU is currently tied for fourth place.
  • SDSU is 8-2 on the road. Their eight road wins are tied for the seventh most in the nation and are SDSU’s most in a season since 2012-13 (10). The Aztecs’ 80% win percentage on the road would be their highest since the 1996-97 season.
  • The Aztecs are holding opponents to 39.4% shooting from the field and 29.9% from three in conference play, both of which lead the Mountain West.
  • The Aztecs have held their opponent under 60 points 12 times (11-1) and under 40% shooting in 13 games (11-2).
  • SDSU commits just 13.0 turnovers per game (27th in the nation). The Aztecs have had less turnovers than their opponent in 18 of their 24 games.

Player Notes

  • Veronica Sheffey is averaging a team-high 12.9 points per game in conference play.
  • Sheffey has scored in double-digits 15 times, the most on the team. She has scored 10 or more points in all but two conference games so far.
  • Sheffey is 42-for-46 (91.3%) from the line during conference play, tops in the Mountain West.
  • Nat Martinez is shooting 54% from the field and 44% from three in conference play.
  • Martinez has won the Mountain West Freshman of the Week three times. The Aztecs have won a conference-best five MW FOTW awards (Naomi Panganiban, 2). Combined with the men’s program, SDSU has won the award 11 times, the next closest is CSU with five.
  • Adryana Quezada is one of six players nationally to have over 1,500 points & 700 rebounds while shooting at least 50% from the field and 70% from the line.
  • Quezada is shooting 52.8% from the floor in conference play, which is third in the Mountain West.
  • Cali Clark had a career-high 17 rebounds at UNM last Saturday. This tied for the second most by an Aztec in the Mountain West era (26 years).
  • Clark is fourth in the nation among active players in rebounds per minute (minimum 100 games). She was second in the nation last year.
  • In Clark’s 109 games at Colorado State, she had double-digits rebounds six times and one double-double. This season she has 10 games with 10 or more rebounds and six double-doubles.
  • Clark is third in the Mountain West in blocks and rebounds.
  • Kim Villalobos has played in a school record 143 games.
  • Villalobos has only missed five games in her career and has played in 101 straight and made 93 consecutive starts.
  • Villalobos is one of five players in the nation with at least 1,100 points, 750 rebounds, 200 assists, 175 steals and 100 blocks in her career.
  • Villalobos is in the top ten in SDSU history in games, rebounds and blocks.
  • Erin Houpt is the only player in the nation to shoot at least 40% from three and 90% from the line in her career.
  • Houpt is 92.6% (162-175) from the line in her career, the best in the nation (minimum 150 made).
  • Houpt’s 42.0% career three-point percentage is 9th in the nation (minimum 150 made). She is 25-for-54 (46.3%) from three this season.
  • Naomi Panganiban has won Mountain West Freshman of the Week twice.
