HOUSTON – Seeking its fourth consecutive conference title, the San Diego State swim and dive program finds itself in a familiar perch atop the team standings after a trio of second-place finishes Wednesday at the 2025 Mountain West Championships inside CRWC Natatorium on the University of Houston campus.
The Aztecs racked up 184 points during the first wave of action, maintaining the upper hand over Nevada (163 pts), while UNLV (160 pts) occupies the third spot, followed by Wyoming (154 pts) and Fresno State (142 pts).
Among the highlights for the Scarlet and Black was a silver-medal performance in 1-meter diving competition by Valentina Lopez Arevalo, who compiled a season-high mark of 313.00 in the finals after finishing atop the standings with a total of 306.20 points during the preliminary round.
In the closely contested finals, Lopez Arevalo cemented her medal-winning effort with scores of 55.90 and 58.80 in the 5134D and 403B dives, respectively, finishing behind Bailey Heydra of Nevada (328.70) for the crown.
SDSU’s advanced one additional diver to the 1-meter finals, where Summer Westmoreland placed eighth with 269.45 points.
The Aztecs’ 200 medley relay team also posted a second-place finish, as the quartet of Abby Storm, Moa Bergdahl, Alex Roberts and Meredith Smithbaker combined for a time of 1:36.90, which ranks third in school history.
Washington State edged the Scarlet and Black for the relay title after completing the race at 1:36.51, snapping SDSU’s six-year winning streak in that event.
