SAN DIEGO – Kate Christos, Reilly Hunter and Keira Doyle-Odenbach have earned Big 12 Midfielder, Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week awards, the conference announced on Tuesday. San Diego State lacrosse leads the Big 12 in awards through the first two weeks, amassing six total.
This marks back-to-back Midfielder of the Week honors for Christos. The junior out of Madison, N.J. has been a key factor for the Aztecs on both sides of the field. In week two, Christos combined for nine draw controls, four goals, three assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. She matched her career high in draw controls with five against Wofford.
Hunter earns her first conference recognition as the Defensive Player of the Week. The team captain recorded three caused turnovers, two ground balls, one draw control, and won five face offs to help San Diego State secure a 4-0 start to the season in the team’s second road sweep. She also contributed offensively, finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season at Wofford.
For the second straight week, San Diego State garnered Freshman of the Week honors, with Doyle-Odenbach taking it home. The true freshman midfielder out of Orland Park, Ill. had a breakout performance at Winthrop. She led the team in draw controls in the 19-11 win over the Eagles with five total. She also posted two goals, two ground balls and four caused turnovers. She added two draw controls and one assist in the win over Wofford.
The Aztecs are 4-0 for the first time since the 2014 campaign, and will next face Denver in the 2025 home opener on Feb. 23 at noon.
