SAN DIEGO – Sophomore Frankie Garcia, junior Kate Christos and redshirt freshman Bella Tan have earned Big 12 Attack Player, Midfielder and Freshman of the Week awards for the opening week of the 2025 lacrosse season, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Garcia has been a leader for the Aztec offense through the first two games, scoring eight goals. The sophomore also recorded three assists, two ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover. Garcia’s six goals in San Diego State’s 17-5 win over Detroit Mercy is a new career high, previously five goals at UC Davis on March 23 of her freshman season. The performance also ties the sixth most goals by an Aztec in a single game; only nine other student-athletes have hit that mark at San Diego State. Garcia is the youngest of the Aztecs who have etched their names into the all-time top 10.

Through her first two appearances, Christos, who earned Midfielder of the Week, was a key factor in San Diego State’s wins over Detroit Mercy and Eastern Michigan. The junior was able to find scoring opportunities, putting five points on the board, including three in free position. All seven of her shots were on target. She was the second leading scorer in the team’s win over Eastern Michigan with three goals. As a draw specialist, Christos led the Aztecs with five against Detroit Mercy and two at Eastern Michigan. The Madison, N.J. native also posted three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Earning Freshman of the Week honors, Tan has already made a quick impact in her collegiate debut season. Matching Garcia’s eight goals last weekend, the redshirt freshman out of Lutherville-Timonium, Md. is tied as the team’s leading scorer through the first two games. She led the way for the Scarlet and Black at Eastern Michigan, putting five in the net after a three-goal performance at Detroit Mercy. She was consistently getting good looks, taking 11 shots, all of which were on goal. Tan also had three ground balls and one caused turnover against Detroit Mercy.

These are the first conference awards for the three Aztecs.

Next up, San Diego State will head to South Carolina to take on Winthrop on Friday and Wofford on Sunday.
