SAN DIEGO – San Diego State’s Alli Mann collected two conference weekly awards on Tuesday, garnering Mountain West Swimmer of the Week accolades as well as Freshman of the Week recognition after a series of standout performances in a pair of dual meets against the University of San Diego, Jan. 24-25. The announcement was made by the league office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
With her accomplishments, Mann earned her second set of dual MW awards this month, giving the Aztecs nine conference weekly certificates for the season.
In two encounters with the Toreros, Mann claimed three individual event titles and contributed to a winning relay team to go with a pair of second-place finishes, highlighted by a pair of pool records in the Aztecs’ 117-86 home triumph on Jan. 25.
In that meet, Mann won the 100 freestyle after setting an Aztec Aquaplex standard with a personal-best time of 49.73, which currently ranks eighth in the Mountain West. The Orange County, California, native also swam the butterfly segment of SDSU’s victorious 400 medley relay team that combined for a pool-record clocking of 3:43.09.
In addition, Mann placed second in the 50 freestyle with a career-fast sprint of 22.82, which ranks second in Aztec Aquaplex history, helping the Scarlet and Black complete an unblemished 10-0 dual-meet record this season and extend SDSU’s winning streak to 75 dating back to January 2018.
At USD’s home pool the previous day, Mann was one of two double winners for the Aztecs in a dual meet conducted without team scoring, helping SDSU sweep all 12 individual races. The Aztec newcomer emerged triumphant in the 100 fly with a time of 54.41, followed by a victory in the 100 free at 50.55. She also swam the third segment of SDSU's 400 free relay B team that placed second to the Aztecs’ A team just .05 seconds behind at 3:29.11.
Mann and her San Diego State teammates have their sights set on the Mountain West Championships, scheduled for Feb. 19-22 in Houston, Texas. The Aztecs are seeking their fourth consecutive conference crown and sixth in the last seven years.
Meanwhile, SDSU divers will be in action this weekend at the Lumberjack Invitational, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, in Flagstaff, Arizona.
