SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team begins its conference season this weekend with a road trip to Boise, Idaho, and Reno, Nevada. The Aztecs play at No. 63-ranked Boise State at 1 p.m. MT/12 p.m. PT on Friday, March 29 and at Nevada on Sunday, March 31, beginning at 1 p.m. PT.
The winner of nine of its last 11 matches, San Diego State (11-3, 0-0) is also 9-2 at the Aztec Tennis Center this season. Last week, SDSU earned a 5-2 win over Portland in its lone match of the week on March 22.
SDSU's only newcomer, Robin Parts has led the way for the Scarlet and Black this season. Parts is undefeated in singles (9-0) and also in doubles with his partner Alexander Mandma (7-0). He primarily plays on the fifth court in singles and on the top court in doubles. Johannes Seeman, who plays on the top singles court for the Aztecs, earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors for winning in both singles (6-2, 6-2) and doubles (6-2, with Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice) in last week's victory over the Pilots.
No. 63 Boise State (12-9, 0-0) is riding a five-match winning streak with wins over Purdue, Eastern Washington, Illinois State, Utah State and Washington. All five were home matches for the Broncos, who are led by No. 98-ranked Jip Van Assendelft and No. 110-ranked Samuel Sippel in singles, while the pair is also ranked No. 31 in doubles. The Aztecs fell 4-2 to the Broncos last season and trail 13-11 in the all-time series between the two teams.
Nevada (4-10, 0-1) has lost three straight, with losses to Saint Mary's and Denver before a 4-3 loss at Air Force to open Mountain West play. San Diego State came up just short in a 4-3 defeat against the Wolf Pack a season ago but holds an 11-5 advantage in the teams' 16 meetings.
