Aztecs Host First Doubleheader in Two Years

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team will compete twice on Wednesday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center when it hosts UC Riverside at 2 p.m. and Point Loma Nazarene at 5 p.m.
 
Wednesday is SDSU's first doubleheader in two years, with the last one taking place on February 26, 2022. It is also the squad's first afternoon doubleheader in over a decade, going back to January 18, 2013.
 
No. 75-ranked San Diego State (3-1) is perfect at home this season with wins over Brigham Young, Sacramento State and Idaho.
 
The Scarlet and Black have won the double point in all four matches in 2024, with the duos of Alexander Mandma/Robin Parts (court 1) and Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice/Bora Sengul (court 3) starting the season a perfect 3-0. Parts is also off to a 3-0 start in singles, splitting his playing time between the fifth and sixth courts.
 
UC Riverside (1-9) has not faced as many rainouts as the Aztecs. The Highlanders lost their first nine matches before winning 7-0 against NAIA school Ottawa - Arizona, the school Liam Spiers transferred to SDSU from. San Diego State is 14-1 against UC Riverside going back to 1989 with the Aztecs winning the last meeting 5-1 in 2016.
 
Point Loma Nazarene (1-1) has only been able to get two matches in, playing each of the last two weeks. The Sea Lions fell 4-3 to Azusa Pacific and defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 5-2. The teams have only met twice, with the Aztecs winning both times including a 7-0 win in 2011.

San Diego State heads to the Bay Area this weekend to play San Francisco at noon on Saturday and Saint Mary's at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
