LAS VEGAS – At the conclusion of the second day of the Mountain West Fall Qualifier, two members of the San Diego State women’s tennis team remain in the main draw. Gloria Alogo and Jo-Yee Chan advanced to Friday’s singles semifinals after recording quarterfinal victories on Thursday.
Alogo, the fourth seed in the singles bracket, coasted through the third round with a 6-2, 6-4 win over UNLV’s Cindy Hu. The junior has won all three of her singles matches in straight sets.
A few courts over, Chan rallied to punch her ticket after dropping the first set 4-6 to Utah State’s Indya Nespor. The two seed bounced back to take the following sets 6-3, 6-3, securing her spot in Friday’s competition.

Ninon Martinache also made an appearance in the third round, but came up short of a semifinal bid. Zdena Safarova of Boise State defeated Martinache 6-2, 6-2.
Both doubles pairs were downed in the quarterfinals as well. Alogo and Martinache battled against Colorado State’s Victoria Erechtchenko and Sarah Weekley, taking the match down to the wire, but fell 7-8 (2-7).
Chan and Liisa Varul faced off against Boise State’s Safarova and Maya Dutta, bested 5-8.
Varul recorded a consolation victory, defeating Nadia Kojonroj of Air Force 6-2, 7-5.
