SAN DIEGO – Day two of the USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Championships is in the books for the San Diego State men’s tennis team. The Aztecs battled in their three main draw appearances, but fell short in the barn burner matchups.

In the singles round of 16, Mathieu Josserand claimed the first set 7-5 against Arizona’s Inaki Cabrera-Bello, but dropped the second and third 2-6, 4-6.

Three courts over, Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice came back from behind to win his second set 6-4 against Niels Hoffman of USC, but was defeated in the third set 3-6.

In the doubles round of 16, Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Janson’s matchup against Grand Canyon’s Brice Patoux and David Wekesa came down to the wire, but the duo were bested 4-6.

While the main draw action didn’t go the Aztecs’ way, Josserand and Louis Chusseau recorded a dominant 6-0 win over Tom Bevan and Jett Leong of Illinois State in a doubles extra match.

The Aztecs will continue to compete in extra matches through Sunday.
