SAN DIEGO -- The three-time defending Mountain West champion San Diego State men’s golf team has announced a competitive 2024-25 schedule. Led by 21-year head coach Ryan Donovan, the Aztecs will compete in 10 regular-season tournaments leading up to the MW Championship, regional competition and the NCAA Championship.

SDSU, which is ranked 24th in the Golf Channel preseason poll, returns four of its five starters from last season’s squad that finished sixth at the NCAA West Lafayette Regional and also returns the 2023 MW individual champion Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS), who redshirted last season with an injury.

Leading the way for San Diego State are its all-conference performers senior Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) and Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy).

Hastings, who is ranked 15th in the PGA TOUR University preseason rankings for the class of 2025 and is a Golf Channel preseason honorable-mention All-America selection, is coming off a fantastic junior season with the Aztecs where he was a PING All-West Region selection and all-Mountain West pick, each for a second straight year. Hastings ranked second on the team behind Kowack with a 71.03 stroke average over 33 rounds. Hastings, who also ranked second in rounds in the 60s (9), rounds below par (15) and even-par rounds (4), opened the season with a wire-to-wire victory at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate (Sept. 8-10) with an 18-under 195, the best 54-hole score in program history. In 11 tournaments for the season, he had a win, three top-5 finishes, five top-10 efforts and six top 20s.

Kowack, meanwhile, led the team with a 70.91 stroke average last season across 35 rounds, and also topped SDSU in rounds in the 60s (13) and rounds below par (21). Kowack captured the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, Sept. 25-26, at 11-under 205. Out of 12 tournaments last season, Kowack had one victory, two top-5s, three top-10s and six top-20 finishes.

Former PING All-West Region and all-MW pick Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) is also back for his final year along with Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand/Anaheim Discovery Christian School).

San Diego State is scheduled for four tournaments in the fall beginning with the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, Sept. 20-21, at UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Aztecs took third in the event last year after winning the 2022 version at 16-under par.

The Aztecs next competed at The Tindall in King Country, Washington, just two days after the completion of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate from Sept. 23-24. Hosted by Washington, the tournament will take place at Aldarra Golf Club.

From Puget Sound, SDSU will make its way to Oklahoma City for the prestigious Jackson T. Stephens Cup, Oct. 21-23, at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. This year will be the fourth edition of the event with San Diego State competing all four years, played in honor of the late Augusta National Chairman, Jackson (Jack) T. Stephens.

The Aztecs’ final autumn tournament will be played Oct. 28-29 at the Cal Poly Invitational in Carmel Valley, California. The host course will be The Preserve.

SDSU kicks off its spring slate at the Southwestern Invitational, Jan. 27-29. This year’s event has been moved from the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, California, to Sherwood Country Club in Lake Sherwood, California. The Aztecs tied for third at last year’s event.

San Diego State then travels west for the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 13-15, which takes place on the Ocean Course Hokuala in Lihue, Hawaii. The Aztecs will look to improve on their 12th-place finish last year.

SDSU follows the Hawaii trip with the Southern Highlands Collegiate, March 2-4, at Southern Highlands Club in Las Vegas. San Diego State came in sixth at last year’s Southern Highlands Collegiate.

The Aztecs then host their solo tournament of the 2025 campaign, when it welcomes another highly competitive field for the 18th annual San Diego Lamkin Invitational, March 10-11, in Chula Vista, California. For the 16th time overall and 14th year in a row, historic San Diego Country Club will serve as the host venue for the nationally recognized tournament. SDSU was seventh at last year’s even after coming in second in 2023.

San Diego State next heads to the Pauma Valley Invitational, March 17-18, at Pauma Valley Country Club in Pauma Valley, California. LMU is the host for the tournament.

The Aztecs will have one last tune-up before the conference tournament when they make their 14th consecutive trek to the Santa Cruz area for the Western Intercollegiate, April 14-16, at scenic Pasatiempo Golf Club. SDSU came in seventh at the 77th Western Intercollegiate a year ago.

The Mountain West Championship will take place once again at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, Oregon, from April 25-27. At last year’s event, SDSU captured its third straight league title by finishing at 11-under 853 and then beating New Mexico in a one-hole playoff.

This season's regional championships will be conducted over three days, May 12-14, at six different venues. SDSU will be looking for their 25th NCAA regional appearance over the last 26 chances (2020 NCAA regionals were canceled).

The NCAA Championship, meanwhile, will take place at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in nearby Carlsbad, California. Stroke play will be from May 22-25, with match play set for May 26-28.
