PARIS, France – San Diego State Hall of Famer, Shanieka Ricketts (Thomas) has advanced to the triple jump finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She recorded the second-best mark of the qualification round.
Representing Team Jamaica and jumping 14th in flight B, she leapt 14.47m (47-5.7) on her first attempt automatically qualifying for tomorrow’s final beating the qualifying standard of 14.35m. Her mark ultimately ended up as the second furthest jump, behind Cuba’s Leyanis Perez Hernandez who jumped 14.68m.
The triple jump finals will take place tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. PT streamed live on NBC and Peacock.
Ricketts’ is looking to improve on her fourth-place finish – one off the podium – at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She also finished tied for 13th at the 2016 Rio Olympics, her first Olympic Games.
